Yes it's stuck out in North Point, a slightly dishevelled district northeast of Causeway Bay, and yes it's a bit bland and corporate, but the Ibis is also a bit of a bargain. Transport into Central is not a problem North Point MTR station is just a few doors down from here.
The Ibis' 31-storey building is a collage of jagged lines and pastels - very much a 1980s YMCA style of architecture - and the modestly sized rooms repeat this theme. Decor aside, the rates are tremendous. Don't bother with the 'Standard' rooms. The 'Harbour View' rooms have some spectacular vistas of water and faraway, cloud-shrouded peaks, though your eyes do initially have to stretch out over a car park and a ferry terminal. The hotel also has a small but useful business centre and a concrete-floored 2nd floor cafe that gets too noisy to be enjoyable. You probably won't meet too many fellow travellers out in North Point, unlike at the guesthouses of Causeway Bay, but if you don't mind being removed from the action, it's a worthy budget option.
